The Power of a Controller Template >> Restoring Lost User Name & Password on the WLC

Q:
I've changed careers and have started a new job as the IT Director at
the new company I work for. I'm having problems accessing the
Company's Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) because I don't have the former
Director's user name and password. What can I do to restore the lost
user name and password on the WLC?

A:
The Wireless Control System (WCS) from Cisco is a very powerful
wireless management server. The Wireless Control System (WCS) plays a
key role in managing your Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC) and Lightweight
Access Points, all from a central location. So, when that dreaded day
comes when you can not access your Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) via the
local user name and password, have no fear WCS is here...

The Process

Follow these easy steps to create a Controller Template that will "push"
a new local user name and password onto your Wireless LAN Controller
(WLC). Please note the following before proceeding: The Wireless LAN
Controller in question must be added to the Wireless Control System
(WCS) before you can successfully complete the process.

1.
On the Wireless Control System (WCS), run your mouse pointer over
the word Configure and click Controller Templates.
2.
From the vertical menu on the left hand side of the screen,
click Local Management Users.
3.
From the --Select a command -- window on the upper right hand
corner, click the drop down box and select Add Template... then click
the grey GO COMMAND button.
4.
Create your new user name and password and set the access level
to Read - Write. Then click the grey Save button.
5.
Click the grey Apply to Controllers... button. You will now see
a list of Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC) that the Wireless Control
System (WCS) is managing. From the list, select the controller or
controllers you want to apply this new user name and password to, and
then click OK.
6.
At this point, the Wireless Control System (WCS) will show a
success message on the screen. This indicates that the new user name and
password is now ready for use on the Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) you
pushed it to.
